What is Yo! Yo! Onion! ?

Yo! Yo! Onion! is an online comic written and drawn by Perry T. Hamilton IV. It typically updates twice a week on Mondays and Fridays. The comic's genre is hard to pin down exactly but it definitely takes place in a fantasy world and has comedic elements. While some of the humor and setting is drawn from roleplaying games, Yo! Yo! Onion! is not a parody and exists within its own weird little universe... or would that be multiverse?

If nothing else Devlin stands out in a crowd with his spiky, two-tone green hair; bright orange vest; pink goggles and big, gold, onion-marked medallion. Give him a minute though and he'll prove he's not just another pretty face in the crowd as he spouts a mixture of gamer speak, jive turkey and suburban ghetto. It's unknown if Devlin talks this way because he believes it makes him sound cooler or because he honestly doesn't know any better. Either way, thinking is clearly not one of the young man's strong points.

However, Devlin does have boundless confidence in his own abilities and believes himself to be the hero of his own story. When all is said and done Devlin also ultimately seeks to do the right thing by his friends and will fight to the very end for what he believes in. He's come to the Forbidden City Catacombs on a quest to rescue the beautiful princess of the Uhnion Kingdom from a terrible demon and he's not leaving until he finds her. He also firmly believes that once he rescues the princess she'll fall madly in love with him and give him a happy ending.

Devlin claims to have gained his mad skillz from hours of playing video games in his mother's basement. He was named the Elite Hackmaster Onion by the "weird, little, onion-headed dudes," of the Uhnion Kingdom when they asked him to be their hero and rescue the princess. At the same time they also gave him the magic Hackmaster Medallion and the two magic pistols that Devlin has named War and Peace. Before that Devlin claims to have been a pizza delivery boy for Sol's Pizzas.

Rainer, simply put wants to rule the world. He has come to the Forbidden City Catacombs seeking the fabled Gauntlet of Tyranos the legendary talisman that allowed the god-kings of the ancient city to forge a continent spanning empire until its collapse fifteen hundred years ago. Rainer is extremely knowledgeable about the Forbidden City's ancient past and the secrets hidden within its depths. He spent almost half a decade researching every scrap of information he could acquire about the ruins before setting off on this expedition.

Why Rainer wants to rule the world and what he plans to do once he crowns himself god-king of all creation are unknown. While he makes no secret that he believes himself superior to everyone around him he tends to keep his motivations and the exact details of his plans to himself. All that is really known is that he is more then willing to do whatever it takes to achieve his goals, including sacrificing both allies and innocents if it comes to that. Rainer is also apparently the head of the Demonology Department at the University of Spires and holds half a dozen doctorates in various arcane subjects.

 

Mikori Rei

For a fairly large chunk of her life Mikori has made her living as a hired killer, using her diminutive and unassuming appearance to get close to people and strike when it is least expected. In this way she more or less faithfully served the organization known as the Brotherhood of Seven Devils until she accidentally killed one of their clients. Too valuable to kill outright, the Brotherhood exiled her to the village of Grey Hollow to serve as the head of its intelligence division in the rustic little town for a few seasons. Of course, being the only member of the Brotherhood in Grey Hollow the title didn't mean much.

Grey Hollow's only claim to fame was being the nearest town to the Forbidden City Catacombs, thus it saw a trickle of adventurers every season seeking glory, fame and fortune within the ancient tunnels. Bored out of her mind in the little town Mikori began accompanying parties of adventurers into the tunnels. It quickly became clear to her that most folks had no idea what they were doing down there and were basically walking to their deaths. Seeing all the senseless death, Mikori decided to make it more meaningful by killing off whole parties of adventurers and then looting their corpses to make a tidy profit for herself. As she saw it, if they were all just going to die in the Catacombs anyway, someone should benefit from it.

In this way, Mikori became one of the few people to successfully come out of the Forbidden City Catacombs alive as well as one of the most knowledgeable about its first few levels. It has also given Mikori a small arsenal of magical items and enough spending money to live in as much comfort as Grey Hollow can accommodate. Everything was going smoothly for the young assassin until she met Devlin and Rainer.

Mikori is accompanied by Gage, the familiar spirit that has been the girl's constant companion for as long as she can remember. Like Mikori, Gage's diminutive and unassuming form hides both a cunning mind and deadly power. The soul bond between Mikori and Gage runs deep allowing them both to silently communicate with one another as well as act in perfect synchronicity.

Cyrus is the gatekeeper for the Forbidden City Catacombs. It is his duty to stand before the entrance to the Catacombs and inform people of the rules for entry. A long time ago he also warned people about the dangers of entering the catacombs and that they were most likely going to die if they went inside. However, after a decade of more or less being ignored in his warning he figures everyone who comes to the Forbidden City these days knows exactly how dangerous it is to enter. The vast majority of his time is spent simply reading the newspaper and occasionally being annoyed by random adventurers seeking entrance to the Catacombs.
